Are You Ready to Build a New World?

"Love alone can unite living beings so as to complete and fulfill them... for it alone joins them by what is deepest in themselves. All we need is to imagine our ability to love developing until it embraces the totality of men and the earth."
—  Teilhard de Chardin

We have certainly come a long way from the world I grew up in. That was the world of the 50's, a time of strict mores that didn't allow for much deviation. Families were made up of a mother (female), a father (male) and their offspring, preferably three or less. People who were different, i.e. anyone who was not white, heterosexual and anti-communist was not allowed to participate in the American dream.

Then came the 60's a time of upheaval and dissension among the young. A time of questioning; questioning the strict mores, a war fought in a foreign country that really wasn't a threat to our country or way of life, and the exclusion of people just because of the color of their skin. This was a time of loosening the morals and the mores of American society. A time of more awareness as we fought for justice; but fell for drugs, free love and loud music.

During the early 70's the chaos of the 1960's continued until about the middle of the decade. Although things settled down from the chaos of the 60's; social changes, the women's movement, civil rights issues along with a new awareness of the environment continued to grow and we started to buy stuff.

Then the ME generation of the 80's was born. What you had was more important than who you were. Social programs were cut back, the mentally ill were released onto the streets, more mothers went to work so they could have more stuff, kids were in daycare, and we lost a lot of talented young people to AIDS. It was the time of the spend thrifts, buy on credit, as we proclaimed, "if you've got it, flaunt it", and "you can have it all". And we bought more stuff.

The 90's saw the birth of the World Wide Web giving us a new means of communicating, buying and doing business. There seemed to be violence everywhere; South-central Los Angeles, the World Trade Center, Waco, Texas; Oklahoma City, Columbine High School. Even as the violence continued, there was a booming economy; the stock market was going up, up, up; cars got bigger and we bought even more stuff.

After much ado, we got through Y2K without a hitch. Everyone had a personal computer and for the first time in human history, the "common" person had a way to communicate with large numbers of people. Even with this new freedom, we were losing freedoms. After September 11, 2001 our country seemed to go mad. We were scared. We seemed to regress back to the 50's. We invaded another country that had done us no wrong, we started torturing people, we took away civil liberties and lost much of our privacy. Our government, especially the executive branch gained more power as we lost it. Now more people bought houses whether they could afford them or not. The houses got bigger and cars got even bigger. And we kept buying more and more stuff.

And that brings us to now; the bad new is everywhere. Millions of houses are in foreclosure or worth less than the mortgages on them. This company and that company wants $20 billion here and $200 billion there. If we don't loan the auto industry what it wants, millions will be out of work. If we don't give the banks what they want, there will be no more credit for the merchants to buy stuff to sell. Our towns, cities and states can't meet their budgets. People are being laid off everywhere. The stock market is in the crapper and many older people don't know what they are going to do. Either they can never retire or they will be eating cat food if they do retire. Health care is unavailable for millions and even if you have insurance it will cost you plenty if you get really sick. Our food is provided by large agribusinesses and who knows what goes into it.

And it's not just in the United States; it's happening all over the world. There are places on the planet where you can hardly breathe the air. The planet is warming up and the ice caps are melting. We have raped the environment, mostly other countries, to get raw materials to make all our stuff. And now we can't buy stuff.

It's going to take major changes to "fix" all the damage we have done. These are not external changes, like the election of a new, younger, more aware President of the United States. However, I do believe the election of Barack Obama is certainly an external manifestation that there are a majority of individuals in our country who are willing to see change happen. Are they, and are you willing and ready to make the necessary changes to themselves? For what Barack has said is so true, "Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek." Now we must start to make these changes and they must be made internally before we can manifest them on our planet.

Have you had enough pain? Are you ready to make the changes necessary to create a hospitable, peaceful and loving planet? I sense that the gift in all this suffering and disruption is the same gift given the alcoholic or drug addict when they hit bottom. For then and only then are they ready to work the twelve steps to relieve themselves of the terrible pain of addiction. I would suggest that we have become addicted to stuff, to buying, to grabbing, to getting bigger and bigger whatevers. I would also suggest that the single greatest tool in making change is to work the first three steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. In case you are not familiar with these steps, they are:

  1. Admit you are powerless over (fill in the blank) __________________, that your life has become unmanageable. (The truth is you are powerless over all that is happening in the world. You can't change anything or anyone other than yourself. Your life in unmanageable in the greater scheme of things.)

  2. Believe that a Power greater than yourself can restore you/the situation to sanity. (I call that power, Divine Spirit or God. You and your ego cannot restore any situation to sanity. You are not alone, for this power is always with you.)

  3. Make a decision to turn your will and your life over to the care of God as you understand God to be. (I would add here that after you make the decision, you must actually turn your life over.)

I believe that until a majority of us have turned our wills and our lives over to the care of a power greater than ourselves there cannot be a new world. Things have gone too far for us with our small egos to correct this mess we have made. The good news is we are not alone; there is help and we only need ask for it.

Although this process is simple, I would not presume to tell you that turning your life over to a power greater than yourself is easy. The process will entail you making hard choices about how you want to continue living your life, about whom you have invited into your life and whether they are appropriate for you, about showing up for your life in ways that fulfill your purpose, about telling the truth, etc.

However, when you turn your will and your life over to the care of Divine Spirit then and only then will you begin to let go of your ego and become conscious of whom you really are. When you begin to realize who you really are; spiritual beings having a physical experience here on planet Earth, then you also realize that we are really all one. We are like the many drops of water in the sea, we are all different and yet we are all the same. Each one of us is needed to make up the sea (Divine Spirit) and each one of is needed for the power of the sea to be realized.

When you realize that everyone of us is needed and we all have a purpose then and only then can you really respect all beings on the planet and change can happen. For when we regard every human as necessary, we respect our planet; all our fellow beings on the planet whether they be plant, animal or mineral; as well as our own bodies, minds and spirits. At that point we can let go of grabbing what we think we want and begin to realize that there is enough for everyone to get their needs met. For the truth is we have the resources on this planet so that every being on this planet can get their needs for enough food, clean air and water, and shelter met. What we don't have right now are the distribution channels to get food, water, energy, etc. to all those who need them. When we begin to respect all life, then we will work together so that the needs of all life are met.

As each of you as individuals make these changes, others in your life will want what you have, i.e. peace of mind; and they will begin to make changes which in turn will cascade to the people in their circle, and then to the people in their circle and on and on until there is majority of us doing the work of love on the planet. This can happen; I believe this is what the many different native people had in mind for the new world that was to come after their calendars ended in 2012. I believe this is the fulfillment of the prophesies of the Christian Bible as well as Nostradamus and other well known seers.

I believe as we start to work together to provide for all beings on the planet prosperity will return for all. There will be work for everyone as we develop channels of distribution for clean energy, wholesome food, safe water; and as we develop sources of clean energy, wholesome food, beautiful clothing, art, homes, furnishings, books, and all the other wonders that fulfills the human soul. Then we will truly be living on a hospitable, peaceful and loving planet where we are all fulfilling our intended purpose.

Are YOU ready to make the changes in your life necessary to build this new World?

For more information on making these changes, please do not hesitate to email me. I will be glad to answer any questions you might have or to speak with you further on this subject.

Also if you have never read any Pierre Tailhard de Chardin, you may want to look him up on your computer. P.S. He is actually the person who said "We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience."
